Mining is a process of extracting the valuable metals and minerals from the earth. Mining is one of the most profitable business and results in the economic growth of a country. Even though it is economically important, mining is generally destructive and harmful to the environment.
Mining is the main cause of deforestation, chemicals used in mining affects the soil and when it is discharged to water bodies it contaminates the water, the pollution from mining process also affects human health. So, it becomes necessary to map the mining area, monitor the area of excavation before and after mining. It will not only keep us updated with the current activity but also helps monitor the changes happening in environment. This will help in creating regulations which will reduce the impact of Mining to a considerable extent.
Traditional method like manual survey is time consuming and may not be accurate enough. Therefore, in recent years Laser scanning technology is being used. Laser scanning is a remote sensing technology which uses laser beams to measure the position of surface or targeted feature. This technique delivers millions of accurate 3D points (mm level accuracy) with high density. Laser scanning can be Terrestrial, Mobile or Airborne. Terrestrial Laser scanning techniques are used in engineering surveys because of its high accuracy, timeliness & safety. Laser scanning is used to create 3D surface model of mining area.
After creating a landmark in the field of GIS and Engineering services, Ceinsys has is a step ahead in the LiDAR field. Ceinsys is operating for all the three platforms of LiDAR technology i.e. Terrestrial, Mobile and Airborne to give optimize solutions and services to survey and GIS industries for various government and non-government departments.
Ceinsys Tech Ltd. has carried out a pilot project using Terrestrial laser scanning technology in the Kandri mines MOIL, Mansar. The results covered various aspects and advantages of laser scanning technology over mine survey. Using the data collected during pilot project at Kandri Mines contour plot, longitudinal and transverse profiles, 3D visualization and computed volume of the open cast pit were the generated output.
The 3D spatial data generated for laser scanning is useful to support a diverse range of mining activities, such as:
- Exploration and resource evaluation
- Design and construction of mine plant and infrastructure
- Determination of ore body, pit and void volumes for mine planning
- Periodic determination of pit, bench, pre-strip and spoil surface volumes for auditing payments to earthworks contractors
- Periodic determination of stockpile volumes for inventory and accounting purposes Environmental planning, monitoring and reporting for the mining operation and the neighboring region.
